Is your Organizational Culture Sabotaging your Knowledge Management Strategy?
Today we’ll cover a second method for assessing organizational culture. Since the Meyers Briggs assessment (listed yesterday) is based on a single person’s viewpoint, it is only as valid as that person’s opinion. Another instrument that I’ve used to measure organizational culture is the Profile XT assessment. This is a more accurate assessment, it should be administered to every person in the target culture, and can provide a wealth of information. For example, a person who shows low energy and high manageability on the Profile XT scale will do much better with the process approach of knowledge management (Winlock, 2008). Additionally, an assessment like the Profile XT, can show if the practice approach, or process approach of knowledge management is best for that individual.
The figure below shows the results from the Profile XT assessment, and higher numbers are not necessarily better than lower numbers. The blue shaded squares represent the ideal pattern for a person who would work well with the process method of knowledge management. The large purple rectangle represents where the individual scored in the assessment. This can also be used in the hiring process to ensure that the people hired will support the knowledge management strategy instead of sabotaging it. And since knowledge is now a key asset of most organizations, hiring a person who will support your knowledge management strategy is critical.
